Busy As A Bee On A Blossom
If you are finding yourself stressed out from the ups and downs of living a creative life read on because I am going to share something that is working for me and what I discovered in the process.
My phone rang the other day, and it was my friend Ed calling. He wanted to know how I was doing and what I’ve been up to.
I said, “Honestly Ed, I’m stressed out, I have so much stuff going on and I am stress eating! But the days are getting longer, and weather has been nicer, and I’ve been able to get outside more and walk the dogs, so that’s good. Oh, and I have started meditating again. I used to meditate regularly, and I just got away from it when I was caring for my mom.”
I told him, “I really think meditating is helping me focus more. I have been cleaning carpet, windows, curtains, and organizing my house and garage. I’ve been painting and doing stuff after work that I’d normally hold over to do on the weekend. I’ve purged a bunch of stuff. I hauled an extra 3 bags of garbage out of my house last week. Oh! I’ve started remodeling the master bath.”
He says, “Well that sounds great! Remind me is that upstairs bath a bath/shower combo?”
“Yes, it’s a full bath with the pink tub shower combo.”
Ed laughs because he is a real estate agent and asks, “So are you getting rid of the pink tub?” Which is real estate code for, “I hope she’s getting rid of that pink tub.”
“No. (I hear a slight moan) Donna tells me pink is back in vogue for 2025 (I hear a louder moan.) and the tile is white, so I am leaving it alone. It’s in perfect condition.” I laugh and raise an eyebrow, “Now if the tile was pink, I’d would have ripped it out a long time ago.”
We both laugh and Ed asks, “So how do you do your meditation?”
“I found this lady on YouTube! I think her name is Sara Raymond and her channel is the Mindful Movement. Her voice is pitch perfect and she offers a great 20-minute meditation for reducing stress and anxiety. I’ve been doing it for about two weeks now. I close the curtains so it's dark in the room and I lay back in my comfy chair with a fleece throw over me. I listen and do everything she says.”
“Oh, your chairs are comfy. Is it exactly 20 minutes?” He asks, “Because I do 20 minutes of redlight therapy, 20 minutes in the sauna, I shower and then I do 20 minutes in the hot tub, and then two-to-three minutes in the ice barrel.”
I abruptly but in, “Hold up, hold up, ice barrel!? What the…when did you get a sauna AND an ice barrel? Man, you’re high maintenance! I had no idea you had all this going on,” and I’m thinking to myself…that’s a whole lot of naked time. Now I know why he always smells so good...he doesn't have any clogged pores. Sheesh! Men and their toys.
In the pouty voice of an eight-year-old I hear him say, “Whoa, I don’t think I have EVER been called HIGH maintenance before!?
“Oh trust me, you’re high maintenance! Ask one of your five sisters.”
We continued to laugh, and he says, “Tell me more about this meditation. I might be able to do that when I do my redlight therapy….”
“Oh my gosh, it's fantastic, I’ve been doing it every day after lunch. She puts me to sleep EVERY time and then she wakes me up at the end. It’s like getting in a mini nap. It’s fabulous!”
Ed agrees it sounds good, and I say, “Oh, but Ed I haven’t told you the best part yet.”
“Oh? What’s that?”
I start to laugh a bit, “Well yesterday when I was meditating the cat jumped on me and woke me up and I found out what she’s been telling me to do while I’ve been napping.”
Ed’s laughing between words, “Oh no whaaat?”
“She’s basically been telling me to CLEAN my house!” At this point we’re both laughing uncontrollably. I almost peed my pants.
I mimic her light and airy meditative monotone, “In order to de-clutter your mind…you must also de-clutter your physical space.”
Laugh snorting Ed says, “Send me that link.”
LOL
Have a great week! Here is the link to the meditation. Give it a try and let me know how clean your house is two weeks from now! Wink, wink! 😊
