Hi, I’m Tamara, the face behind the laughter…. :)
I’m grateful you took time to stop and see my online portfolio. It feels odd to me to write about myself because art isn’t about the artist, it’s about life, love, and emotion.
I think of my paintings as Leading Ladies. I feel a great piece of art that speaks to you becomes the leading lady of the room.
If you don't agree, that's okay, we can still be friends. ;)
Let me explain…a large painting placed on a feature wall makes a statement. She becomes the Leading Lady of the room. The other items in the room become the best friends and supporting characters.
A great piece of art can help you feel more grounded in your space. It brings in a cozy peacefulness like gently falling snow. It wraps you up in wonder. It can cheer you up, calm you down, or help you feel inspired.
You might be asking yourself, "What's her style?"
My style is has evolved from my extensive background in Mosaics. I am a Certified Roman Mosaicist and through my 26 year study I learned the importance of negative space.
When I decided to shed the stone in 2020 I picked up a paint brush for happy colors and I haven’t put it down. At first I dabbled in abstract art, abstract realism, mixed media collages, and open impressionism. Using various mediums such as Japanese inks, alcohol inks, acrylics, and oil paints.
I have found my groove in Open Impressionism using acrylic based mid tones with oil overlays. The Open Impressionist style is a natural progression for me since it is a style where I lay the stokes next to each other to create the painting which is similar to planning a mosaic.
The mid tone I start with becomes the foundation or grout of the painting. I jokingly call it “Tama-fied” and my friends laugh, but knowing me personally, they get it.
It is a method of painting where my brushstrokes are broken here and there, and some of the mid tone peeks through…supporting the painting like grout supports a mosaic. I aim to capture life’s textures. I love to paint the wind! I paint what I feel and not just what I see because the truest eyes are found in the heart. Right?
As the viewer, the broken strokes engage your eyes to do the blending. It gives the painting this mesmerizing effect. To me it feels organic and full of wonder.
